Letter of Recommendation Template

Every now and again you will be called upon to write a letter of recommendation for a former employee or collague. These recommendation letters can make or break an applicant's chance at the job so if you really appreciated the employee's time at your business, take some special care towards crafting this letter. Here is a sample letter that you can refer to when crafting your own custom letter:

To Whom it May Concern,

This letter is my personal recommendation for John Smith. I have been John's immediate superior for more than four years. I have always found him to be an excellent and efficient employee who always comes to work with a smile on his face and is dedicating in completing all of his assignments.

John is a pleasure to work with and demonstrates terrific interpersonal skills when dealing directly with colleagues and clients. In meetings, John always presented innovative ideas and strategies. Throughout his tenure at Pilgrim Incorporated, John created a number of innovative and successful business strategies that increased our profit margins and we continue to employ.

Outside of strategy, John was also a big part of our implementation of those strategies. John did a terrific job communicating with partners and clients and became the go-to guy for many of their questions or concerns. Outside of his excellent phone presence, John is a terrific business writer. Whenever dealing with letters to be sent out to important clients, John was always the person to go to. Throughout his tenure with us, John assumed many leadership roles and was key in motivating and helping fellow employees.

Though I am saddened to see John move on, I must highly recommend John Smith for employment at your company. John would make a great asset for any organization.
